Dave has always been a simple and straight forward guy, which helped him in his 15+ years of copywriting. His easy-going demeanor and quick wit came to be a natural talent when working in Venice Beach at Cold Open, a renowned creative agency specializing in key art for the entertainment industry’s biggest studios. 

Dave eventually expanded his copywriting skills as a Key Lead Copywriter for Mattel’s top billion-dollar brands - Hot Wheels and Matchbox.  In joining the award-winning packaging team, he’s gained valuable experience learning about consumer products and brand packaging on a global scale for hundreds of products. 

An east coast guy with a west coast attitude, Dave lives with his wife, two kids and dog in sunny Southern California. He enjoys bouldering, hiking and staring triumphantly at a freshly mowed lawn.

Butterflies fluttered in my stomach. I’m so nervous.

It’s the first in-person interview for an entry level admin role at an ad agency in Venice Beach. So nervous.

I sit on an uncomfortable modern chair, waiting to meet with the second in command.

‘Want to meet our copywriter while you wait?’ the receptionist asked.

‘Yeh, sure’.

Her office is small, framed movie and TV posters filled the walls. I notice one with a funny tagline over her shoulder.

‘Wait, you wrote that?’

‘I sure did’.

‘That’s so awesome!’ 

My mind starts racing. Excitement replaces nerves.

‘This is what I want to do’, ran through my head.

Little did I know that would be the start of my copywriting career.
